The Kunlabori Story

Once upon a time...
The forerunner to Kunlabori, the Swedish company Vivarto Inc. was founded as early as 1988, but the real story started five years later when the foundation was laid for the company's involvement with software developement. This happened after the founder, Dr. Mikael Stenborg, helped to found the Direct Party - a political party based on Dr. Stenborg's ideas on direct democracy combined with delegated voting.

Shortly afterwards, the insight dawned which would become the basis for the whole of Vivarto's operations: Instead of starting a new party, the ideas could be more easily spread and achieve a deeper penetration, if they could be implemented in already existing organizations. The aim is therefore now to inform companies, organizations and cities about the splendid qualities of a model of decision-making which is based on the best from direct democracy and the best from representative democracy. We also want to serve as a living example have this can be done within our own collaborative, and believe this Business Model can be helpful for the development of free software also generally speaking.
The Vivarto Inc, primary direction took form in February 1999, when the work begun on the application NetConference Plus.

In April 2003, Mikael Stenborg decided to let NCP 3.3 become available under a GNU/GPL license. This lead to serious fights within the management and board of the company, that finally resulted in the bankruptcy of Vivarto AB, Sweden in march 2004. Kunlabori Coop was founded in June 2005 with the purpose to continue the work of Vivarto, both with another business structure

Because of some internal architectual technical problems, the development of NetConference Plus has stopped, and we have decided to make an entirely new system, Nornorna, with all the old features, plus content management, secure voting and secure currency transactions included.
This software is based on the Tiki Wiki software.

We also got Richard Stallman as one of our new advisors.
In august 2004, the virtual country of Nornia was founded, and in october 2004, the Kunlabori Cooperative joined the Open Coop, with main location in London, UK.
